WIDEAZONE.COM, LAHAT – Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning that struck parts of South Sumatra yesterday (Wednesday, 11/13/19) afternoon caused several houses and trees to collapse.
The BMKG website ( bmkg.go.id/cuaca/ ) also released an early warning with the phrase ‘Beware of potential rain with moderate to heavy intensity that can be accompanied by lightning / lightning and strong winds for a moment in the South OKU region, Four Lawang, East OKU, Musirawas North, OKU, Pagaralam, Muaraenim, OKI, Lahat, Lubuk Linggau and Musirawas’.
The electricity network also did not escape the effects caused by wind and lightning for almost an hour. In the Baturaja substation, strong winds accompanied by lightning caused damage to the 20 thousand volt output cable at transformer 1 (Transformer # 1) at the main substation that supplied the Ogan Komering Ulu Regency.
Manager of Customer Service Implementation Unit (UP3) Lahat, Zamzami in his statement said that rain and lightning caused a short circuit current in the 20 thousand volt channel.
“Heavy rain accompanied by lightning causes short circuit in outgoing GI Baturaja which causes the burning of medium voltage output cable, but for substation equipment itself is still safe, because it is not significantly affected,” he explained.
As a result of the burning of the medium voltage cable, the electricity supply to Baturaja City and parts of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency has been extinguished. “Around 41 Megawatts were affected by the disturbance, and we immediately did a fast response by maneuvering through the networks of Martapura Substation, Muara Dua and Prabumulih.
“At 18.04 WIB, Transformer # 3 was successfully operated at 10 MW, and at 20.00 WIB partly was supplied from GI Martapura and two Muara GIs around 5 MW and partly supplied from GI Prabumulih around 2 MW. In addition, the load was maneuvered from the Baturaja PLTU which is ready to backup the supply “, he explained .
It is planned that starting today, Thursday (11/14/19) the PLN recovery team will immediately carry out repair work at the Baturaja Substation. “Since last night, the team has begun to prepare for equipment and materials, especially the medium voltage cable or 20 kilovolt side and starting last night the recovery officer has made repairs, hopefully within the next 2 days the repair has been completed if there are no significant obstacles”, Zamzami closed.
